Good Afternoon

Our bananas never last long before they start turning brown.  We try to buy the ones that have green on them hoping they will last longer.

I tend to buy bananas when they're super green. Tha way, I don't run the risk of them over ripening.

Thank you for the banana advice. I will definitely try a different method. I just put

mine on the sideboard,  I do try and buy organic ones. I shall have to go and eat one

now as I have not had any breakfast and it is 10am here. I did get up at 6am as a

grocery delivery was due. We are forecast colder weather, but it is mild here at

present. As we live over a massive stone quarry there is no chance of flooding.

I suspect the stones helped built the town as all the older buildings are Cotswold stone.

I've always been very picky about eating bananas....they always had to be just right or I wasted them.  But, now I'm picky about what I buy, just buy a few at a time and If I still have some after that, I peel them, put in plastic wrap and freeze them for blender drinks or I mash them to add to banana bread.

As for that angel talk, kindness is everything.

Good afternoon

The best way to give bananas a fighting chance at a long shelf life is to hang them from a hook. The ethylene gas works more slowly. Hanging bananas also prevents them from bruising on the counter, which they’re more prone to do as they continue ripening.

I saw a tip on my news feed lately that bananas will keep longer if you

wrap the stem in masking tape and keep them in a dark, cool place (not the fridge). It seems the stem absorbs light and speeds up the ripening process. I tried the masking tape, and also keeping the fruit inside a closed cupboard. The closed cupboard worked better. I buy only 2 or 3 at a time since they don't seem to keep for more than three days.
