It takes a creative eye to see the potential. The two of you definitely did. I can't wait to see the finished house!

Neglect, plain and simple. It is the dead end of a dead-end street. The closest house to us is a block or more away. Nobody cared. When I first saw this placed on a real estate site, it was priced at $55,900. That was more than I wanted to pay, but I decided to add it to my list of possibilities.

When I checked on it again several days later, it had dropped to $40,000. Two days after that, it was $32,000. One day later, it was at $29,000. I smelled a desperate seller. When it was all done, I (WE) bought this place for $20,900 sight unseen.

After we got down here and saw the state of the lot (and a few things inside that were not properly disclosed to us), I called the agent. He told me straight up. "The lot is worth well over $50,000, but not in that condition. Even if you tore the house down, I could still get you $50K for the lot. Clean the lot up, and you sell it easily."

The fact that we are STILL cleaning the lot four days away from our first getting here on December 23rd last year should give you an idea of how bad things were.

That said, we can now see the end of the tunnel. We haven't wanted people to stop by or posted any photos of it because people would realize I am crazier than they originally thought I might be. We have literally poured blood, sweat, and tears into this cleanup. Nearly every spare moment and dollar we have had, has gone into working on this place.

I hope to soon post a series of before and after photos of the jungle then and the yard we made from that jungle now.

Good Morning

I simply cannot imagine how your property got to the state it was in when you bought it.  The glass, the rocks, and the tangled weeds.  I know it's been quite a job to clean up.  If I even get near glass I usually get cut so this wouldn't be a job for me.  I give you credit.
