My sweet, overworked mother did all of that. As we her children grew older we were drawn into doing our parts, especially the deep cleaning of the whole house. The job I always chose was crawling under the dining room table and buffet and dusting and shining the fat knobby legs. The table and buffet both had eight legs each and each of the eight chairs had four of the same kind of legs so it was a time consuming chore. The dusting cloths were sprinkled with furniture polish which gave them a shine and a good smell.
