My mom spanked us all the time when she felt we did wrong. We always got the brunt of it when Patti did anything wrong. She was Mom's favorite and everybody knew it.

I only ever got a quick smack on the bottom or a leg with a hand from Mother. i had been naughty and it hurt my dignity more than anything. it also made me feel ashamed. I did the same with my Boys. Some Mothers made their children wait until dad came home and I thought that sooo bad. The small child had forgotten about the episode and poor Dad became the evil man that came home to beat the kids.
I still feel a sting on the leg was quick and a lesson learned and hurt their dignity more than anything.These days it seems to me if you use a bit of corporal punishment you will go to Jail as an unfirt parent and children rule and have no discipline or respect.
of course this has nothing to do with the torture you endured. You children should have been removed.

I loved my Mother to pieces. With seven children she was now and then worn to a frazzle and responded by going to the elm switch and wielding it in such a way that it left welts on legs and arms. But I only remember it coming my way once and quickly learned that what she needed was some help from us and a little rest and music.
