I imagine my foster grandmother would have explained if it had ever come up.Later when I was in organised sports, some of our best players were gay, as are a couple of my best friends. It never really bothered me one way or another.

Re: Sea_Gypsy

No, but she must have talked to Dad about me as Dad took me to Eleanor's house for a visit with her and her parents.  I wasn't surprised that they knew him as Mr. Sanders.  He was friendly with everyone and from him I learned not to judge people by looks.

Mother never told me anything and anything I knew about Sex came from other girls at boarding school. mind you; we were all limited in our knowledge.I knew nothing about gay or lesbian until i was almost 30 when My forst cousin after having a family, started living with a woman. I then searched it all out for myself.

I wonder how my mother would've handled the topic of Eleanor. My guess is Dad would've filled me in.

Oh, what an excellent post! It brought back memories from when I was about that age, maybe a bit younger. A boyish, mean and "tough" girl had said something threatening to me more than once and I told my mom all about it and her. That led to a discussion. Mother had a way of sharing just enough info to be age-appropriate. Still, what I learned eventually from Mother was certainly something new to my mind. I'm glad she explained the topic, though I was of a tender age. She presented facts gently in a non-judgemental and simple way.  Did your mother ever talk to you some more about Eleanor?
