I pay 1/3 upfront 1/3 when half finished and the rest when finished. Money talks.

Next time get a quote and don't pay until it's finished. No you shout you silly old bugger there won't be a next time. Don't swear at me, I am a gentle soul, well somewhat.

The hassle keeps on happening. It's a shame there aren't more good contractors out there.

Good morning

You're right. Contractors have a way of being really stubborn. They do not like being told what to do or pushed to hurry a job along. Two of my brothers-in-law own a construction company. It amazes me that their houses are in need of repair, and they spend plenty of hours in the bars after a long day of roofing and rehabbing other people's homes. I am crossing my fingers that you get your house back to your standards in lightning speed.

This messing around by contractors is one reason I have put off getting

a certain project done at my house. I hate having people in my house, upsetting my little routines. If I don't follow my patterns there can be trouble because habit is more dependable at times than memory.

Good Morning

Kabu, I love this post!  I now know more about contractors and how they work.  When we had our electricity re-done in the house and garage it took weeks.  Different people would come on different days and sometimes they would pull a guy off the job and bring someone else in because they needed the first guy somewhere else.  I will say though that they did a wonderful job and we've had no complaints.  We went through our Electric company to find a company that had all the training and licensing that they needed.  I'm afraid of electricity so I did it this way and I'm sure it cost more money but in the end, it was worth it.  When they were done the county had to come out and inspect the work and it passed with flying colors.  I was very thankful for that.  Everything is up to code and that is a good feeling.  It was the same when we had our roof done.  The city made the company put up a $25,000 bond but they said it was for our protection.  When the job was done we passed inspection and again I was thankful for that.  I know it's so hard having home improvements done but it really is worth it in the end.  When we had to have a new water heater put in a few months back we went through our utility company and it is up to code too.  We have other things that need to be done but for now, we are good.  I'm hoping your contractors finish your house sooner than later.

A very interesting read, Kabu.  You have a lot of knowledge in a lot of fields.    I love the holes in the plastic bag.  LOL

How I love this post, dear S.Sister. You're spot on in every way. That exactly how they operate. Rrrh! Our kitchen is just about done. I have all the packed away items to unoack and put away. Hang in there, it will get finished and you will love it. Threaten them with the Contractors State License Board in your state.
