You're right about reading great poetry.
I've noticed that inspiration follows reading a good poem.  I'd say, the more the poem affects you, the better its influence will be toward your writing.  So, in other words, not simply if the author is well known, but if the poem is very good and you are moved by its content.

y

yes i have painfully learned that lesson---

i wanted to get my masters in english (ha, ha, even though i hate capital letters)

anyway i let fear of my own failure and other people talk me out of it

i sooooooooo regret it and now i'm really just too tired  but i'm still thinkin' about it--maybe

Well at least what that "supportive" teacher said didn't get to you and

kept you from applying. Congrads! I'm so glad that you love writing and you feel good when you brag about it. I'm glad you are a part of a writer group, you lucky girl! Don't let people keep you from your dream, no matter how hard they say it is or how hard it may seem.

Well done
I took a completely different route but as you commented to my blog some of the energy invested here could be invested towards your goals - you know - a diverse portfolio

Hehe... I enjoyed this!
So you acted the part and then became it ? That is cool! Though I know you're talented and it takes more than a black beanie!
