That tosses a lot of theories I learned at the uni out the window.

Re: Re: Good Morning

Sea Gypsy, it's hard to imagine a time like this so long ago.

Pat

Reminds me of "Where there's a will there's a way." They got it done.

Re: Good Morning

They think this was a religious site, at least this portion of it. More like a burial site to remember the ancestors, perhaps. They probably didn't live too far though and I think they would have been much more like us than we think. They had to have had leaders, organizers, bosses of the different jobs, cooks to feed the people, products to sell, food to grow somehow. Water to harness. Housing. Lots of things.

Re: TAPS

No, it was 'discovered' in the '60s, I think. But what a sight it must be. And it's huge. They have only uncovered a bit of it so far.

Ah, Michener! Yes, I regret that I have only read a few of his books, as I did enjoy them very much. He could make one feel like one was right there, wherever THERE was. What a talent! The setting was the story and the people were the fillers. Brilliant. Most people would write the other way around. Great reads.

Re: Good morning

They had a way of doing things, that's for sure.

Re: CCT

Elephants, water buffalo - who knows? It does seem like they needed some animals. Good point.

Re: Kabu

I do believe you are correct. I certainly agree with you on that one.

Because it's there! And it is so wondrous!

Re: Dear Brother Aba

The link tells a bit more about it but they have only excavated a small portion of the area. It was huge and to top that off, today's they can find no visible means of local water which would have been available to the people then. But of course, there had to have been water for the many thousands of people they say were there. It's truly an astounding site. The artwork on the building that the people constructed was also very good. They were very bright.

Dear Sis

These excavations or something else it could be, make me go into the world of imagination. And the more I think, the more I'm 😯 astounded

Humankind has always reached for the sky, it seems.

I am sure the Pyramids and places like this were not built by aliens or time travelers but with the use of Elephants.

I wonder if they had ever tamed some of the animals to shift heavy loads.

Good morning

I have always wondered how they built things this high before modern machinery was invented. It truly does boggle the mind.

Definitely a place I have not been.  I used to love reading all of the James A. Michener books because he would build his stories around places like that and the times of their beginnings.  Just last night I was thinking that I needed to dig one of those out and read it again.

Good Morning

Sea Gypsy, I loved your post.  It's amazing to think back to a time that we had no idea existed.  I wonder if the people that lived in what would have been their Modern City were like us?

This story reminds me of the saying "nothing new under the sun."

Interesting to think how they did all this without cranes and power equipment.
