Your dad was a wise man. I wouldn't have bought the painting either at the time.

Good Morning from Cleveland

Kabu, I know this project is going to take some time and I'm sure it will be stressful but the end result will be so worth it.  When you have a question I hope the contractor and his workmen will go into detail with you and explain exactly what they are doing.  I think remodeling your kitchen is a very good thing.  It will add to the value of your house and it will be wonderful to have new appliances.  I can see you sipping a cup of tea with Mr. Graysome close by after all the work is done.

One thing if desperate in later life one can always use the property as a means of

support. Land is very good Archie's Dad had a house in the middle of a moderate

piece of land . someone bought it knocked down the house and built a larger one.

Of course land is expensive here.

Your last sentences say it all. Real wealth is different things to different people. It's reassuring that you have Jim there to keep an eye on the construction. I only paid the expenses but not enough attention when renos were going on here years ago - and you know how that turned out!

Good afternoon

Well, at least you are getting somewhere. It's not much progress, but it's a start. As for real estate, it is a smart investment when properly cared for just as you are doing. An updated kitchen can raise a home's value by 30 to 40 percent, depending on the extent of the remodel.

I can't say that I have ever been rich in anything tangible or salable, but I've been rich in anything that really counts--family, love, comfort, meaningful life, friends, etc. etc. and I've always been comfortable and able to help other people.....much for which to be thankful.

I hope you get a good job on the renovation and your contractor

is one of those really skilled design-build guys. As for investing in real estate, the market is a bit crazy right now. Six months ago the interest rates were very low and houses were selling in a couple of days. Now the economy has changed and a house can stay on the market for a couple of months around here. One thing I like about owning instead of renting is that the monthly payment remains stable when you're buying - the landlord can't jack up the rent every year.
