Good afternoon
My motivation lies in the fact that life is short. It's best to make the most of the time that you have doing what makes you happy. Having purpose is everything.

I don't know the universal reason why humankind and other creatures strive. I know we strive for our first breath and each subsequent one. If we didn't do so, we would not live, at least not on this planet, so it appears that the desire or need to strive is innate.
We only know what we think we know about the planet, the universe(s), spacetime, quantum physics and existence(s), and why we are here. A good thought problem you have presented. I enjoy thinking on these levels sometimes though it's mind-blowing.
