They were moving like donkeys, that was for sure. These two were pretty young females. They don't run because they have very little to fear in the wild except the wolf packs that are getting more numerous.

It's the old pheasant/fox thing all over again. When I was a kid, the pheasant population was on a seven-year cycle with the fox population tied to it. As the pheasant became more populous, the fox population followed them. As the fox cleaned out the birds, their numbers fell, which in turn allowed the pheasant population to grow again.

As the Michigan and Wisconsin DNR (Department of Natural Resources) worked together to learn to protect the pheasant, the population of both stabilized.
