Good Morning

Kabu, I've learned something new today.  I had never heard of two sets of tires on a vehicle.  It sure makes sense to me though.  It would definitely make winter a lot safer!  In the mountains everyone had chains but here in the city, it's usually snow tires with very good tread.

Good afternoon

I love watching old movies. John and I have an eighties night once in awhile since that is when we met and married. As for the snow tires, when we lived in Nevada and needed to travel over the Truckee Carson summit, snow chains were required. Here in Pittsburgh, it is smart to have snow tires put on your vehicle for the winter months. We have a brand new set of radials on both our truck and our car. So long as the roads are freshly plowed and salted, we are fairly safe. I normally stock up on groceries and paper products before an incoming snowstorm and refrain from driving until totally necessary. Of course, getting to work on a snowy morning is another story. Be safe!

Snow tires with studs are still a thing around here. But mountain passes may still require chains for some particularly snowy, icy conditions. Studded tires mess up summer roads, so they are generally required to be removed after winter's over. Here in Colorado Springs, that might be in May.

Were they also obliged in Ontario, Kabu? I know here in Quebec they have to be on our vehicules as of December 1st now. If you get stopped without them, it's a huge fine and your car is off the road until they are installed. In any case, anyone driving without them would certainly have a problem negociating the roads out here in the bush!

When I lived in Washington State people were required to have

snow tires on their vehicles during the winter months - probably from Halloween to Easter or more. There were mountainous areas where snow tires were probably a good idea all year long. I have all-weather tires and stay home any time there's any chance of black ice or snow-slick roads. Better to be bored with leftovers than get in a wreck on the way to Wendy's.

I used to hate it when we had to put chains on the Van especially when we got to a village without them. Stay warm if you can.

Here we do need chains if going to the snow. It's close. Only about an hour or so away. Maybe two with traffic. I do hope it warms up there and that you are feeling better.

I remember when we used to have snow tires. I think the majority of accidents are caused by people who are 1. not used to that kind of weather or 2. drive as if it is still summer and the sun is shining!
