The nuns where I went to school were of the Franciscan order but the monks/priests are different in their habits. Were they wearing the brown cassocks?
That's as incongruous as an Amish person pulling out a cell phone while driving a horse and buggy carriage - and yes, some of them do have cell phones, I believe, though they aren't supposed to do so!
