RePat

Yes it is rather irksome when one has to keep watering the flowers. It would be too expensive to use sprinklers water is on meters and I expect it will keep increasing in price. There is talk of new housing having to use rainfall for the toilet. I cannot see what difference it will make the sewage system is overloaded now if one has low rainfall the rivers are contaminated.

Re: Good Afternoon Goldiec

Well, there is not the same amount of pressure in Winter. Just tidying up and luckily we have not had any heavy falls of snow recently. I did have some tunnels three years ago and they collapsed with the weight of snow..

Re: Good Afternoon Sassy

Well, I used to have a smallholding and grew veggies for the trade. I am now restricted to just about half an acre it did seem small at the start but it seems larger every year that passes.

Re: adnohr

If it is not too cold we will dig the ground over. We do have machines but we like the

exercise. We have had relatively mild winters if we do get a hard one it will probably

kill most of the dahlias. Archie will be sawing pallets and any wood he can scrounge.

Do you relax a bit during the winter?

Good afternoon

That is a lot of Dahlias. You guys are quite the gardeners. I could learn a lot from you. This year I finally had a bounty of tomatoes after feeding them a weekly dose of vitamins and minerals. Now I am watching for frost warnings so that I can pick everything before the frost gets them first.

Good Afternoon

C_C_T, I hope you get a chance to rest when the cold weather blows in!

It seems raising crops - either flowers or veggies - is a never-ending job.

It seemed to me that life on the farm was just a little bit easier during the winter between the fall harvest season and spring prep and planting. I hope you get a chance to prop your feet up, sip a hot cup of tea and enjoy a cozy chair soon.
