Very interesting post--I've never seen nor read THE CHERRY ORCHARD, but I want to now, either or both!  Your essay reminds me that there is no act of creation that does not entail destruction--and that's the nature of all change.

Dear Sis Sea, thanks and my gratitude for so liking the piece. Yes, I agree with you that impressions as also the interpretations can and often are, different. Probably Chekov saw all the funny groings-on in the aftermath of the Czars' ousting, as comic.

What an interesting post! I think it’s unoirtant to note that Chekov thought it was a comedy. Like many works, interpretation is often subjective and personal. As always, thank you!
