I have known women like that Taps my Great Aunt was quite domineering.
No one dared to argue with her because she was always right.

It's amazing what our ancestors went through. People had a tendency of dropping like flies then. Amazing what modern medicine does these days.

Re: Kabu
She thought she was. She had to be boss of the world. People kowtowed to her but talked about her behind her back. She taught me how to be a good mother-in-law by making me know what I would never do.

Oh lucky you...not!! How tragic to lose so many children and how helpless the parents must have felt as they died. Still you have suffered terrible losses too. Was your MIL kind to you. My first MIL was a dragon, my second the little Greek Mama was the sweetest dearest any one could be blessed with.

That is so sad. So many people died from Typhoid. I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak of visiting four babies in their graves.

Typhoid was a factor in my mother's story, too - her dad died of it when she was 11. Agnes must have been a mother-in-law to be reckoned with. I hope you met with her approval.

Good Morning
I really enjoy reading these posts. I cannot imagine having as many children as Bertha had but once I had them I could not handle losing one of them. Bertha was a strong woman to be able to handle her life and all the responsibilities. My great-grandmother had 13 children and they adopted a little boy who lost his family. Almost all of her children were girls. I was speechless when I first learned of this. They lived on a farm and I believe the family was able to provide for all of their children from their own hard work. I would not have been able to feed 13 children in this day and age.
