I think we need the green space, with trees growing to make oxygen

and clean the air - golf? Not so much. There are abandoned houses and buildings in every city that could be adapted for those without homes. Could be a public works project, subsidized by grants or public housing programs. A two-for-one problem solver.

Good Morning

I've always felt that cities should revamp the abandoned houses and provide shelter for the homeless.  It makes the most sense to me but the cost might be too much for struggling cities.

I don't think it would be right to take recreation sites. Once it was started  it might just escalate. There probably are plenty of unused spaces, it needs cash though one cannot just plonk prefabs on ground there is a terric amount of work on building sites before the first brick is laid.

There are so many new concepts to help now. Existing buildings suitable for rehab and upgrade could be purchased with State or Federal money and converted to temporary homeless housing. In cities experiencing urban blight that would also create jobs and restore and revitalize communities. There should be multi-disciplinary services on-site to assist individuals. Our homeless population need to be treated with dignity and respect. The small-house concept located in fenced parking lots works very well here. Homeless people have a private, safe place to store their things and get assistance for whatever their immediate needs may be. When they move on to more permanent housing the little houses are easy to sanitize for the next occupant. Medical, psychiatric, educational, financial and physical needs all come into play. Most of us are only a few bucks or breaths away from a disaster, and for the homeless, the road back must seem unbearable. I’d leave the golf courses alone. Who knows how many homeless people might one day want to play golf or may have played before they became homeless? Just make them cheaper to play on though.
