A great tribute to your nurse friend in this story. I enjoyed it and almost could see a sequel.

The pain may have become unbearable or maybe she did give in to the strong painkillers. I love the way you often let us think about end of stories. Decide for ourselves.

Oh that is sad. I do hope she had people help her cross.

Yes, it is really sad when someone feels they cannot cope any longer. It is of course the person's loved ones who feel the pain.

Re: Sassyass 64
I'm sorry for your loss, and that this brought up a painful memory. The story is based on a real nurse friend of mine, Hilde, who did choose this way out of pain more than 30 years ago.

Oh my! There's a lot to think about in this short story. There's Love, Life, and Death. In Life, there's a lot of living to do. I've always loved the beginning but the ending is something I've never wished to see. Ending life by choosing one's own demise is something my mind cannot wrap around.

I suppose that it is the most peaceful way to go if that is the chosen path. It was the way that my own father took his life.
