I loved English but hated grammar and in fact was taught how to speak proper grammar so it shouldn't have been needed. I wish I had been to your high school.

Re: The grammar police are always ready to give crappy reviews.

A good story is key in my mind too. Writing a book is hard enough, trying to keep up with grammar, punctuation, and phrasing is entirely something else. I am also signed up with Grammarly. It helped immensely with my latest book. My sales have been really good this month.

I'm signed up with Grammarly and when I get my weekly updates I do quite well but commas are an issue for me.  One of my writing friends had a book published this year and she's done remarkably well with her sales.  I'm amazed and quite proud of her.  She posted a comment on Facebook yesterday that she joined one of the writing groups on Facebook. She mentioned that the new writers that have not published books yet are so worried about grammar that they miss out on coming up with a good story.  I thought about it and I think she's right.  The most important part is to have a good story and then I think everything else falls into place along the way.  I could be wrong but that's my thinking on writing.

A teacher like Mr. Hopps is priceless.

Grammar and commas are two rough topics for many people. There are so many rules that can become overwhelming. I have read plenty of books written by famous authors that have noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors. Even editors make mistakes. I think that some of it's due to language changing so much over the years, and the not knowing of where to place the comma and something about not putting one between two verbs.
