Hmm - my maternal grandmother was a James, also apparently from that family somehow, as per my mom. I really need to find the time to follow up on it for verification.

Re: This is fascinating history, Pat_B. Thanks for sharing.

We cannot pick our kin, and we all have a few skeletons in the closet.

Sassy, I found this post to be an amazing look into the life of Jesse James and his gang.  I wonder what happened in his life to make him turn into a hardened killer.  At one point he was a little boy and from that point, I just wonder what evil overtook him and turned him into the person he grew up to be.  It's so sad to think he wasted his life hurting others. He could have accomplished good in the world but instead, he decided to follow a path that lead to his demise.

Missouri has the famed Jesse James Hideout in I think Stanton which is about an hour from St Louis. It was in Meramec Caverns which offers tours.

According to family legend, one of my Grandma Lucy's distant

cousins was married to one of the members of the James gang. When my younger sister met her future husband, it turns out his grandfather's name was Ford - and yes, he was one of those Fords. So the two sides of that story eventually came together.
