I adore the researching of family lives even more than the writing after the researching.

Pat, I love this post!  I've never really thought about it but if I could go back in time I would want to meet my Great Grandfather.  I would want to sit down with him and ask all about his life and why he did things the way he did.  He bought land and provided for his family while he was living and after he passed.  I have no records of him but I did see a picture of him once.  I would also like to go back to when my Grandmother was a girl.  She came from a very big family and they lived on a farm. I would like to meet her mother and find out about living in the mountains.  I do believe that who I am is because of who they were.

Going back in time, in family time, I find some mysteries that there is no longer anyone I can ask for information. I think many people underestimate the interest that their descendents will have about their lives, their thoughts and feelings.

Re: sassyyass_64

Thank you for the kind words and your story. You can just imagine the wonderful discussions we used to have after our 30-minute write - when we read our stories to one another back at The Center. I learned so much from everyone - and here on Blogit, too.

Awesome post!!! It is extremely thought provoking. Time travel, please?

The only spectacular thing that occurred on the day that I was born was that Martin Luther King Jr. urged the Angelenos to vote, and it marks the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, to raise global awareness of the vulnerability of audiovisual media.

As for time travel...I would first go back to the 1960s when my paternal grandparents perished together in their farmhouse fire. I would have loved to have known them. I have heard that they were quite the characters. I would then go to 1980 to meet my dad, and look deep to see what his troubles were, and then attempt to persuade him that his life was valuable. Maybe I could have stopped him from taking his life that year. I would then love to go back to the Civil War years. I have always been fascinated by the 1860s and the Mark Twain era. I would have been able to meet my maternal great-great-grandfather who served in the Civil War. I have a photo of him in his uniform. He looks like a friendly guy despite his fighting in a bloody battle.

You are so amazing when it comes to getting us all to talk about our lives. You are an amazing lady and an even greater writer.
