I love reading about your garden. We had so many tomatoes this year and our peppers did good too. I'm not sure why but it probably depends on the weather.

Grew up with the tomato garden being planted every year, along with the entire veggie thing. It was always great but my g-uncle did the work so I only know about watering the things, more or less. lol.

Funny thing, the squirrels here went after the neighbor's tomatoes
and this really ticked him off (the neighbor, not the squirrel). They only got the ones low to the ground, but the pests didn't help with the planting or watering, so it really irritated the old man that they took advantage of his hard work. Sounds like your soil will be really productive next season. Mother always said sandy, loose soil is best for potatoes because it's easier for them to grow underground. Maybe that's why they grow so well in Idaho.

Only grew one plant here in the back porch. It grew huge in the warmth and I watered it well. It had many many tomatoes on it but they would not ripen. I carried the whole thing outside which was quite the task. That night a bear came visiting. I could see his paw marks through the garden. He never stepped on plants but he very carefully ate off every tomatoe.

Well my tomatoes were not so great this year I think due to very hot weather and then suddenly cool days,it made the fruit rough in the skin at times .Although we did not get the blight this year. Better tough than the dreaded black marks inside.
