Of course Kabu folk were mainly poor in those days , my friend told me his Mother had ten shillings a week old age pension as it was called. Dad had pneumonia 3 Winters running. My Mother had to help out on the rounds when he was ill.

It's good to look back upon a childhood where you contributed to the
family and were aware of being protected from the worst of it. Everyone on the family "team" has to pitch in if it's going to work for all - I enjoyed this post so much.

Pneumonia is nothing to play around with. Thank you for sharing a piece of your childhood. It's funny how these little things stay with us for so many years.

Sometimes it was no fault of anyone, just a random birth order - the eldest got everything and the rest we left to fend for themselves. A sad thing your father had to be out working with pneumonia. Good poem.

When jobs were scarce people did what they had to do. My first marriage we were really poor most of the time. mainly because we made bad choices. We did what we had to do to bring up our boys and feed and cloth them first.
