Re: There is nothing yummier than fresh corn with butter.

Sassy, I didn't even think of you having farm stands near you.  You probably have more than we do.  I make very few meals without onions.  We love onions!  I'm so thankful for the cooler weather.

There is nothing yummier than fresh corn with butter.

We have farm stands near us due to the many farms in our area. I love cucumbers too. As for onions, I don't make many meals without some type of onion. It is finally cooler here today and thankfully so.

Re: Our local farmers

FMI, you are so right.  The farmers can use all the help they can get. They work so hard and only have a short season to sell their crops.  I did see some eggplant on the farmer's table but I've never cooked with it.  Hopefully, there are a lot of people that want to buy eggplant. Do you have any local farmers by you?

Re: True

Corbin that is true and I also like to see the similarities between us all.

It feels like fall is in the air...It's nice to read of you supporting your local farmers. They need our help.

Corbin, we are further up north and I must say it's nice knowing people from different parts of the country.

Re: Drenched

Corbin, I hope you didn't get drenched with all the rain.  Do you have a garden because rain is good for the plants but not too much?

Re: Re: Re: Really?

We didn't get rain and I'm not sure when we are supposed to get rain again but it's nice that we dried out from the torrential downfall from the other day.

Re: cooler weather

I am really enjoying these brisk mornings.  I have the windows shut and the fans are off and it's still cool.  I think it's a nice way to start the day.

Re: Re: Really?

The hurricane remnants didn't go up the Ohio River so we only got 3-4 inches of rain.

Re: I was born in Cleveland

Thanks so much for the comment.  I know very little about New Jersey but you must have weather similar to ours. I really appreciate cooler temps.  The sweltering heat this summer has been hard on so many people including me.

Re: Goldiec

Sea_Gypsy, I've never lived where they have earthquakes like in California and you've just taught me something new!  I love it when I learn new things.  I had no idea that in California they encouraged you to have extra food and water for 3-7 days because of earthquakes.  It makes sense but I had no idea.  I've only lived where our winter temps can go well below 0 with high snow on the ground.  Thanks for the comment.  I really appreciate it.

Goldiec

I don't blame you for wanting to be inside when there are snowstorms, and to be well-stocked with supplies. No, I don't live in a cold climate now but I done so and remember not being able to go out and play when the snow was piled high. I live in California and here we are encouraged to be sure to have enough food and water on hand to last at least 3-7 days in case of earthquakes. And now it's time for me to meet your dragon - perhaps after dinner.

Re: Re-stock

Every year at this time we always stock up for winter.  We have very cold winters and we like to be prepared in case it gets below zero and the snow is deep as can be. I don't like to venture out in dangerous snowstorms.  During those times you will find me at home. We also bring in a lot of canned foods and flour and all our baking ingredients. We've lived through enough snowstorms to know we need to be prepared.  Sea_Gypsy, do you live in a cold climate? Thank you so much for the wonderful comment.

What a lovely dish you've made! And so much corn was destroyed last week that it's wonderful that you have gotten some and frozen your foods. I like to do that also, batch cook. It's always a good thing to have back-ups for dinner. Right now everything is empty in the freezer and cupboards and it's time to re-stock.

Re: Casseroles

Kabu, I love casseroles and making enough to freeze is the best. I freeze our leftovers too and it really does make dinner so fast and easy.  I've never made a steak casserole before but it sounds so good.

Yum....Winter food. I have some lovely vegetables and a big chicken thigh in the refrigerator and I intend to make casserole of all the ingredients and then put all but one meal in the freezer. I still have some steak casserol in there. Food tastes better I am sure if you cook a lot at once so I cook enough for a family and then life is easy. Thaw and microwave and there is my supper.

Re: Really?

Corbin, I didn't see the news today.  Is more rain coming our way?  The water has just gone down from the Monsoon we had the other day.

Re: Thanks

We tried to grow corn in our garden but it just never worked out for us. Some years the wind knocked ours down too. We figured since the farmer was right down the road it was a lot easier to buy from him.  Thank you for the wish for Good Luck I really appreciate it.

What a nice warm friendly blog. My brother grows a few sweet corn but we had a wind it knocked them all over. I only planted half a dozen as that produces quite a fair amount.

Good luck with the book.
