Re: Pat,

Nature goes on about the business of Nature... and is indifferent to our little strivings.

Re: TAPS,

Hard lessons... Kids don't realize it can happen, and suddenly. I think to them, everyone they love is forever.

Birds are nesting. Weather systems are moving. The phases of the

moon follow as the universe's metronome requires. The earth turns, tides follow the moon cycles. Evolution proceeds at its own pace, one species ascends as another declines. We remember 50 years ago as though it were yesterday, even as we forget what we did and saw two weeks ago. We are pebbles in the stream, sometimes rolling with the flow, sometimes settled into a niche. For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.

The first part of this post reminded me of when Son #2 was young and he wanted a hamster.  He had so much fun with it (Mrs. Brown he named her) for two years and then one morning he found her lying there.  She had passed during the night even though nothing seemed wrong with her that night.  He was quite upset about that.
