What if money were not the Most Important Thing?

I asked this over on Facebook and got some interesting answers. This is a habit of thought, an unconsidered assumption in most American lives. Not so everywhere, though. In New Zealand, in Bhutan, for instance, they look at happiness as a primary value. This is shaking the assumption here, this pandemic, as we are shoved into the position of not being able to buy ways out of fear, boredom, uncertainty.

With everyone in the same boat, it suddenly makes it easier to strike up a conversation, even if shouted from one back yard into another, with neighbors we never met before now.

Stay well, you and your family--and that will contribute to people you don't know staying well, too.

Divided we fail, it is as simple as that.

Re:

Thank you for your comment.  You know how important friends and neighbors can be. How very important we all are. I totally believe that. We were all put on this earth to help one another. It is so important that we all know how valuable we all are.

Re: Re: We are thankful that you have loving neighbors, Kabu.

I am thankful for my neighbors as well. In older days everyone knew their neighbors.  Today we are afraid of our neighbors. So we don't even take or have the opportunity to get to know our neighbors. And we are suffering for it.

Re:

I agree with you. It seems to be a familiar dance. One in which the steps are taught.  We can only set our focus on creating a new dance. A dance where everyone can add a new step. Let's stop accepting the same old steps. Let's choreograph some real change to humanity.

Re: Re:

No, I believe that unless we face illness or Death. Many of us are oblivious to

what we are doing to each other.  Remember I eluded that the number of lives lost is larger than the number of lives lost in any war in terms of time.

The Chinese are perhaps Americas Older jaded brother. They believe that power via economics is a priority.  They just are overly honest with it.  If their goal will make them richer and more powerful. Human rights may be a casualty.

The Chinese Government is not a  Democracy. Yet I don't believe their goal is to silently kill their competition. At the same time, we will always find an underground secret organization that will seek to conquer the world with little regard for human life.

This is why we will always need a system of checks and balances in all governments.

It'd be nice to see a unfied world, especially after so much polarization in about three decades. Unfortunately, this seems to be another wedge in humanity.

Re: We are thankful that you have loving neighbors, Kabu.

Thank God for that. Not everyone cares about their co-workers, neighbors, friends, and strangers walking down the street. We do not always know what another person is experiencing.

Very well stated.

I believe that you have covered most of the issues that are stemming from this pandemic. Awareness is so important.

Re:

Kabu...Do you feel that the thousands of deaths of our American brothers and sisters aren't a big deal?

Thousands of deaths of fellow Americans is a much-needed wake-up call?  Really???

And we're supposed to look the other way?  Turn our attention from the country that has exhibited a penchant for eliminating

But the Chinese government’s record in the recent crisis is only the tip of an iceberg. The same government is responsible for genocide against the Uighur people, violating international law in the South China Sea, wholesale intellectual property theft from and cyber-espionage against the United States and its allies, one of the worst records of environmental pollution in the world, the invention of a new type of technology-powered totalitarian surveillance state, and more.

The Chinese government, not the wet markets, is the most thoroughly diseased and decaying institution in the world. It is the most powerful institution on the planet that daily opposes human freedom, human flourishing, and human dignity. Was it surprising that, by its very nature, it would aid and abet a global crisis that will kill thousands, sicken millions, and impoverish billions?

excellent post, excellent thinking. I am older and totally isolated but i have a wonderful neighbor and a couple of the dearest of friends. With their emotional and physical support I can survive.
