I used to cut my own hair a few times. I also cut my sons' hair as well. I did my mom's several times because she hated going out. It was hard for her.

I did a pretty full cut a week or so ago, and while it looks fine from the front, I am a little suspicious of the look from the back.

I used to cut my own, that is why my brother does it now. Of course his will soon be longer than mine no Barber.

We have the same intials, Gypsy...that being, "SG."

I am no fan of haircuts due to bad experiences with beauticians who insist on taking off three inches even though I tell them, "no more than one-inch." I have not had a trim in several months. My hair is growing out again, and I love it. I also had one bad experience with my mother back when I was in the seventh grade. I had hair down to the top of my bottom, but I was a tomboy who rode the trails on my bicycle, climbed trees, and played sports with the boys. My hair was forever a snaggly mess by the end of the day. My mother threatened to have it cut into a "pixie" if I didn't start brushing it more. One week later, "hello pixie." I do however cut my spouse's hair once a month since he favors the military cut, which is almost as short as that horrible pixie.

Thanks for sharing. For me, if the need comes to it, I'll have my mother cut my hair. It'll be 1988 all over again, LOL.

I have one son who got an early start on the mountain man shag style.

He's very proud of his native heritage and has taken great trouble to learn to make bows & arrows, right down to scouting along creek beds for obsidian and making the arrow-heads, setting snares to catch game, bow-hunting, etc. (His dad was 1/4 Cherokee.) I can trim my bangs, and have just let the rest of it grow. It seems I have a few crocheted hats I can use to cover the shab if I have to go to the store for essentials. My hint would be that less is more when it comes to scissoring.
