Sleep is good, it does help pass the time and aids immunities. Depression--not so good, but not surprising considering all you've been handling for so long, and now all this going on now--so many things you can only manage to a certain extent.
I suggest that both you and John have your own angels looking after you, and showering sunshine even on gloomy grey days.
