I, too, think they should be preserved if possible.

Not if they can be saved. We are losing so much of our history through carelessness. There is nothing more amazing in a city or town then the original buildings that started it all.

I wouldn't let them decay. That will create so many problems. A commercial business is not ideal going in those places but might be the only way.

They're pretty strict in NYC, aren't they?  The streets with the beautiful building front must survive.  We have several blocks in Louisville thank have the very same frontal style.  They are now totally protected from demolition and disrepair...
