Re: Re: Aba Brother

I do not know much of the Bible but find it close to my heart whenever I have to teach Literatire to my students. T S Eliot is a brilliant literary giant of the 20th century, and is a novelty.... he makes me study into great depths with his fantastic allusive poetries. But you all give the real taste of his genius through your fine commentaries.

Re: Aba Brother

This is a beautiful telling of Eliot's "Journey..." There is some thinking now that the Magi (astrologers) were from Ethiopia, as that is a place that has thr gifts readily available: gold, frankincense and myrrh. It also has an interesting Christian history. Regardless, the meaning imparted here is multi-layered, and so mind-probing. Birth, death, old, new, beginnings, endings: a circle in a cycle, the cycle of a circle. Thank you, again! Well done!!

Re: Kabu

You are right about the mentioning of gold frankincense and myrrh, a star or the name of Jesus which the Magi followed but interestinguy is mentioned nowhere by Eliot in the poem that they were Persians astrologers or Zoroastrian priests come to welcomethe messiah. Thank you ma‘am.
