Good blog, Sarge
I liked Kay-Ren's points, too.
Blogging can help compress your writing so only the bones show through. Not all that descriptive phrasing they used to use.
And, why not write the novel on the blog site. Keeps you motivated to keep writing it for sure. Like you were doing with Eros.
I used to think I was frittering my time away, now I know I'm expanding my world view and writing writing writing all the time.

You have a good point here PSgt...
I still think that the motivation to write, and the comments, keep it worthwhile. At least it's got to be better than TV...

Kay-Ren

Good thoughts there.  More for me to think about.

I was having the same thoughts PS while driving back from grandma's and singing Buffy the Vampire Slayer Show tunes. Yes I'm not busting out the articles I'm working on but right now I'm waiting on some email from a shrink so blogging keeps me mentally limber. I find myself judging my ideas, if it's a great idea and I think sellable it goes in the 'Article Submission' Pile. If it's interesting but way over done it goes in the "Maybe" Pile to be tried in both forums, and if it's silly and a little interesting it goes into the "Blog" Pile.

Blogging has expanded my mental living space. I was like a plant who was root bound in its pot but now I'm in the ground and the whole world is just waiting for my roots to explore it. Any idea I have now has a place it can go. My mind is naked running down the street whooping and hollering, I'm free!

It is something to think about.  This time I stopped, not to make it short, but because I needed to sort out some thoughts.  I will probably revisit this topic later.

There does have to be an exception to every rule

Good points PS...

I don't know which way to look at it.  Maybe it's places like this that teach us how to write well in any forum...long, short, and everything in between.  It's like my 9-year-old racing his motorcycle.  He has his favorite racetrack, but if he can only ride well and win on his favorite track, then he will never be a great motocross racer.  I think writing is the same way...we all have our favorite genre (poetry, fiction, opinion, whatever), but if we can't teach ourselves to write well on all levels, then we'll never be great writers.  In that way this place has helped me, by allowing me to develope as a writer in a new venue.

Interesting thoughts, something to mull over anyway.

So maybe I am an exception to the theory?

I don't think you're allowed to say you were left out of the game when you're still at #2.
