I dropped the land line when I realized I was paying twice for communication, and one phone could be with me wherever--even at home. But I have noticed no one hardly rings more than a few times, as if assuming pocket-sized phones will always be in a pocket or very near.
And do you remember how we always used to seek privacy for calls? In public, phones with booths and doors! No one wanted to share their conversation with the world at large. We have become so careless of privacy and other things when they become... inconvenient.

I find my love of technology is determiend as well by whether it is working or not...It sounds like Wiley's having fun with the phone.

Good. I'm not the only old fogey who finds phone tech a confusing,
threatening mess. I love my land line too - and think carrying a phone around with you 24-7 is not a connection but a disruption. Being at the beck and call, the virtual whim of any Tom, Dick and Jane, leaves you only half-involved with what's going on in the here and now. Years from now are the kids going to remember an inspirational walk in nature, a fascinating moment in time - or some half-noticed text?
Wiley can't help it - he's a fixer by nature. I hope it doesn't get him too bugged.

You and I have so much in common. I tried an Iphone and it was too new-fangled for me. It made me nervous, so I gave it away. It is land-line, emails or nothing around here.

Oh, we are true Soul Sisters, indeed! I know just what you mean about those electronic things. Perhaps there is a way to get your landline working again. I sure hope so. It would be good for Wiley I think, if it worked. Take care, sweet lady.
