Re: Pat,

I feel that way, too--consider it an old friend, like Orion who hung outside the window by my bed when I was a child, on all the cold winter nights when sleep would not come.

The full moon on Friday the 13th was a rarity - the next time it will

be full on a Friday the 13th will be in 2049 - or so I heard on a news report. Doesn't make it special when you think about it, no spooky calling-together of inauspicious forces - it's just the mathematical progression of one day (night) following the next according to our arbitrary calendar. I like to think of this one as a friendly face in the sky.

Re: RPresta,

I think the Farmer's Almanac draws on country traditions, like Harvest Moon... I think November is the Hunter's Moon... I don't remember the rest.

My Dad used to write the astronomical calculations for the Farmer's Almanac... I think it was the Farmer's Almanac.

Micro Moon is a new one on me. A lot of the names for the various moon months come from the Farmer‘s Almanac, while others are derived from our Native Americans, from what I’ve read. I remember the Blue Moon and Harvest Moon from when I was a child.
