Ciel - I heard that also.

And I heard that there is some evidence that playing a musical instrument enhances mathematical learning skills, which makes sense. Yes, they both played instruments. Grandson #1 played the recorder (like a flute) and also the ukulele. Grandson #1A played the violin and the tuba! Now they have heavy schedules and photography is their “easy“ subject, if that, I think.

Re: RPresta,

I have heard there is a correlation between learning languages and learning a musical instrument. Do your grandsons play any instruments?

You're probably right about multi-lingualism. Also, that learning a language you also learn about culture, and that, like travel, is a mind-broadener!

Ciel - So True. So very true.

I remember at one point Grandson #1A saying he would like to learn Chinese. I said that would be good, considering globalization. However, he and his twin are deep into their Spanish track at schoo. A good choice also. Multi-lingualism may become the norm, as opposed to bilingual skills.Good for you, learning Chinese. And I imagine becoming more acquainted with the culture goes with that.

Re: RPresta,

If only our educational systems created that same delight in knowledge!

Re: Pat,

It is amazing how many people don't actually have that understanding.

Learning Chinese is a major challenge, I wish you all good fortune

with it. As for the US being a Christian state - it's my understanding church and state are supposed to be separate - with neither group regulating the other.

Quite an interesting post and I'm glad the Chinese language learning is going well. It's good to challenge oneself and to learn new things. I love learning.
