I guess what it boils down to is faith. I know of people who believe that they will see their long lost pets in heaven while others do not.

Kabu has said it well. All I could think of was looking into the eyes of a doggie or cat or elephant or any other creature as it watches you or its loved ones, and there is the soul. I couldn't get to the article unless I signed up.

Look into the eyes. They really are the window to the soul. Emotions flow from the eyes you can almost read thoughts and feelings. Not just pain happiness and grief but day to day thinking and feeling. Of course all animals have this, including us. No God didn't wave a wand and suddenly there was Adam a few thousand years ago anymore than the World is a frizbie. Like everything in the universes, we have evolved in orderly fashion as designed by the great architect of love.
