It depends on the size. If it's something minor, like a plant here or there, replace it. If it's something like driving a car through the side of the house, the neighbor needs to know from me first because that's a tough one to hide.

I’d tell the owner and offer to replace it. The owner might have been planning to change what was there. Our old neighbor drove his car into our block walk and killed a nice magnolia and smashed the wall. He replaced it al.
