I was so happy to see your post...until I read it. I am so sorry to hear you are going through all that crud. I'll think good thoughts for you!
As for the contract, tell them you refuse to do anything until you have a signed contract in your hands. Talk to a lawyer or someone about it. Find out what options you have available to you.
