Re: Re: Re: Corbin Dallas,

This isn't evidence, this is opinion.  That you don't know the difference--like many with the same arguing strategy--is a big part of the problem in American dialog today. This is why I don't generally engage in this kind of conversation, because it is pointless.

Re: Re: Corbin Dallas,

Evidence?  LOL!   Trump almost doubled the Percentage of the black vote in 2016.

Nancy & CO. are trying to whittle that down.  It's a Moot point.  The proposal will never pass in the Senate.  McConnell has already said it won't be brought to the floor.

Re: RPresta,

Before dealing with immigrant issues, those of slavery and of the way the West was won--by genocidal practices--will have to come first, and reflect not just a willingness to cut checks, but to alter the root ideas and values by which our ancestors justified what they did.

Re: Ciel - A vast and complicated topic - Oops!

Make that "interned." It's hard to comment from my phone...

Ciel - A vast and complicated topic

And interesting. Just to consider carrying out a plan for implementing this would take much study in order to determine an equitable manner in which to achieve something such as reparations. So many injustices have been perpetrated, but not by everyone.

And who knew Italians were interred here during WW II? Even if they were citizens...

Irish were discriminated against here at one time; the list is long. How do we move forward, fairly? Italians in NY, Chicago and elsewhere were paid less than African-Americans at the beginning of the 20th Century - yet neither received fair pay.

This is a malicious attempt to buy votes by  Pelosi and Co.

Re: Pat,

Agreed, a case-by-case process would be impractical in soooo many ways!

One of the witnesses was pointing out that 'reparation' means 'to repair.' Not necessarily money for the work of slaves, but also the repairing of the relationships in this country between people of all skin-tones. It is about reconciliation so that we, as a society and a nation, can go forward and finally release the past evils that we can no longer justify given how we have grown in our humanity: ethically and morally.

I've been thinking about this issue for quite some time - long before the

current administration took the White House. It seems to me that going back into history - researching, vetting claims, etc. would be a v-e-r-y long process, and subject to legal delays, changing political climates, etc.  What if our govt. just made it a policy that all Americans whose families are living at or below poverty level are eligible for free tuition at any state college, skills training facility or university, provided they qualify academically. Seems to me this would open opportunities for those who've found the door closed - including all the groups mentioned in this post. It may not make up for the past, but it could certainly change the future.
