I’m glad you correctly observed that Cromwell’s Puritanical values could mean an anathema to a poet like Herrick. It was a significant aspect, which could not have been overlooked during the age he lived in. Thank you Sir.

I like your analysis of the poem Anib . I suppose if one were in Cromwell's time one would have to be very careful or be subject to some intense scrutiny. One can imagine this as an outlet concealed for the poet's sake. . I doubt if many who read it today even realize the irony behind it .
