Re: FSI,
Everything starts with survival then moves on to comfort. We like to think we work towards leisure, but it has been realized that the people with the most personal leisure time are hunter/gatherers. And then there is keeping up with the Joneses... a kind of greed for the emotional satisfaction of being in the top ranks of the 'Haves.'

On the macro level, it sounds like people wanting to keep up with the Joneses. They want more and more and are willing to do anything to get more.

It appears to be a cycle. And as my dad said, "If you aren't moving forward, you're going backwards." Good post.

Re: TAPS,
I hope you level off to a comfortable zone soon!
I think it is a natural dynamic for a species founded in a territorial, aggressive and even belligerent ancestor.

I love stuff like this. What a great, and interesting, post. I feel like I am in one of those chaos parts of my life like you talk about. It keeps my mind going around, which in turn makes this old lady very weary. Reading another James Michener book. They always follow that pattern you speak of in whatever part of the world he was writing about.
