I smoked for about twenty years and gave up cold turkey when I couldn't walk up shallow stairs without huffing and puffing. It was a time in my life when it helped.  maybe it would have made life impossible for your Mother without that one selfish need.

Now I have no desire to smoke at all and don't even know what a packet costs...more than I want to spend anyway but i don't drink hardly at all don't socialize and certainly don't smoke.

I will never forget that Wiley gave up smoking before I came here because we were both concerned that I would start up again back then.

Poor Mum, perhaps without a smoke she would never have made it.

Funnily I bought a packet of cigarettes a while ago. I thought Crikey! this would ruin anyone. I was talking to a psychiatrist and i said I bought a packet of cigarettes for my neighbor, but she said she rolls her own. I know it is not wise to smoke, we did not realize or care when we were young. She said,'I smoke and most in the institution do.' So I gave her the cigarettes in amazement really.

For the regular smokers nowadays, the cost of smoking is about a car payment. It's a big part of their budgets...At Location D's old convenience store, cigarettes were a hit.
