Thank you Pat, I guess they wanted the latest style, I know the duck's abdomen was quite popular for a while.

Re: Taps
I expect you were more gentle Taps. The old Folk's would put a pudding basin over a youngsters head and cut round it

Those were the days when there was one of everything, which allowed people in a town to get really close together...Some kids make for some interesting haircut experiences...A clever ending to your poem.

When my boys were very young (four of them) my husband bought a hair-cutting kit and started doing them at home. He was so bad at it that I took over and told him to let me do them. I think he must have been planning that all along as he got a big grin on his face when I refused to let him do it any longer.

My sons eventually went to their father and asked him to tell Mum (Me) to please stop cutting their hair. I was sort of devastated sort of glad for I never did really know what I was doing.

I remember how happy my boys were when I gave up on cutting their
hair at home and let 'em go to the barber shop. I have to admit there are times when a professional is worth the price. I especially liked that line in your poem about expecting so much, but settling for less. Must be a universal.
