Some people seem to have a knack for fishing and foraging.

I suppose we adapt to the times Pat. My mum said the kids would wait until the farmer poured the cow's food into trouighs and then run across as soon as was wise and pick out any of the locust bean pods, or bits of them.

I imagine many of us would lose weight if we had to forage any further than a grocery store. Your poem has me picturing natives in the by and old.

Interesting story. Good job on presenting your character's point of view.
When I was a kid the old ones always had wisdom about all kinds of things, what to eat amongst the fruiting plants, what was poison, the art of patience and how it works for you when you're planning to catch fish for supper, etc. I'm sorry you lost the old one.
