King wrote as Bachman...
...to try to avoid the stereotyping that had occurred with the name Stephen King. King was known for writing in the Horror genre, and he wanted to write stuff outside of this, so he started writing as Bachman. Eventually readers of both "authors" started to spot similarities in the writing styles and the truth eventually came out. Since then, King's basically written novels in his own name about whatever the hell he wanted to.
