Yes, it would backfire on them. Dad's getting his rent no matter what over the next five years (unless the extremely unlikely scenario of an economic collapse greater than the Great Depression).

This is going to be interesting to watch. If the same people are running the oul company as those who've dealt with Dad in the past, then I don't see them working with him, but if it's new staff there, perhaps...

I suspect that between you and your dad, you'll find a way to make it
work for you, even if it means just letting it go entirely. With one aggravation out of the way, there's always time to search out a new challenge.
