I remember the old lady who was squeezing the residue from the innards . I suppose it was to fertilize the garden. I often used to think how much simple it would have been to fix the end onto a tap,but if one only has a well. Somehow I never fancied  the completed luxury , although it looked tempting. The piggy smell lingered in my imagination . 'Chitterlings .'

Ribcage was called in to ask him what are pig trotters.  He got a little grin on his face thinking you were tossed a testicle.  I decided I'd better look it up.  We were both relieved to know that your prize was a foot, although in Japan on Serviceman's Night on the Navy Base they always had "Testical Tuesday" and he enjoyed them after he got used to the idea of it.

Re: Corbin

They are under your socks.  The rather crude version was s--- stompers.

OMG....Trotter's are Pig's Feet?

I remember My mom and Dad eating those nasty things....I had to take my plate of real food and go into another room....Don't you realize what those things have walked around in?

'-It was a true story in a way.Her Dad got killed in the first war. No benefit came for 6 weeks.

Her mother had been brought up in a comparatively wealthy home. She was then in poor health  8 children she just could not cope.

Re: I don't mind a Christmas card from someone - friend or relative -

Pat  I expect you were a bit removed from the days when kids ate anything. I remember  my Mum saying they waited until the farmer filled the cow troughs and then as soon as he was gone they would search for the locust bean pods.

Re: FS

Yes somethings it is best not to see. We  try to go for charity cards.

Re: Ciel

Yes probably better than being prodded into oblivion. I agree with the sanitizer but its too late now . I remember my little brother running around with a mouse in his mouth , thought he was a cat perchance.

Maybe send everyone on your list two cards this year?

Sounds like Colin was taken by surprise, probably the best way to go...   And yeah, kids defeat all sorts of germs if allowed to get dirty out in the world. I hear that the current trend to hand-sanitizer is actually making us less resilient to germs.

I've never mailed a dull Christmas card. There have always been great options at all the stores.

I've never seen a pig slaughtered. I imagine it's very bloody.

I don't mind a Christmas card from someone - friend or relative -

that I haven't heard from since last year. But usually these days they're advertising, things on sale, special offers, etc.  Billy's pig reminded me of days on the farm when it was time to butcher a hog. They had it down to a science in those days, and of course I had to observe. Lucky for me I hadn't made a pet of the animal.

CCT

I must say, you are quite well-stocked with Christmas cards now. We all have our favorite styles, I think. Your poem was really picturesque.
