Re: Re: Re: Corbin

Young people evidently are not very sentimental, not so many years ago in Elephant time it was all the vogue too obtain nick-nacks etc. I once paid £5 each for copper kettles. thinking as things were doing that I would make a small fortune selling them. I waited too long.

Re: Corbin

I don't know what the future will bring but even nice things are discarded when out of fashion. Corbin, once house clearers would pay an admitted  low rate for all contents of a house. Now they want to be paid to remove the contents.

RePat

Yes that was rather unwise to play that record Pat. Yes the lady struggles at times but she is a marvel really.

Re:

Hi Kabu I expect it had little pins on the cylinder they plucked notes as the cylinder revolved.. I should not think you took much interest in that one at the time.

Re: RPresta

Of course RP there were musical boxes. They became a collectors item. Not very expensive really at the time ,but very few around now.

Archie does have a way with words...  I never played a gramophone, but my mother said she used to enjoy the Victrola for long periods of time when she was small.

I have memories of the wind up Gramophones and there was one from my Mother's family that had cylinders instead of disk with recordings on them.

I remember the wind-up record player and the stack of records

my Aunt Pearl had at Grandma Lucy's. There was a time she played "Danny Boy" and I'll never forget how grandma howled "how could you?". I thought it was a lovely song, but it turns out she'd lost a child named Danny in infancy and every time she heard the song it brought back the memory.  Sorry. This is TMI... I'm glad to read that your little neighbor lady is keeping on keepin' on - none of us know when the pearly gates will open for us.

I have one in a cabinet...along with 86 albums in their sleeves.   Joe Love found it in a yard sale and got it for a steal!

It's good you're there for that neighbor...The words, "I still love you," mean a whole lot.
