After my Dad retired from the Ford Company where he had worked most of his adult life, he did a lot of volunteer charity work for years until his "old people" were a lot younger then him. He finally had to stop doing errands for them because his Alzheimer's was getting worse and he kept getting lost and he had to stop driving.

I couldn't help thinking of Judge Judy when you finished the verses.
In case you're not familiar with her, she's an attractive lady in her early 70s, but her personality is a bit cranky and judgmental. And you are correct - a hundred years from now we won't care beans about any of it...
