That's the point, the lifestyle and interests of the majority. And there were Bilmor swimming pools in backyards - all sizes, large, very large, even with decks, and at affordable prices in convenient home stores in town.

About the only thing I remember about the 1960's these days is taking care of and enjoying my four little boys. It was a full-time job mothering them. LOL
