Wishing Preacher a very Happy Birthday. He has the support af a wonderful wife and mother, and that is a blessing for him. I'm sorry to hear of the familial suicides, especially your own grandson. You have shared with us a most touching post and an exquisite quote. Thank you.

That's a beautiful quote!
A tendancy to suicide may run in families because of behavioral rather than genetic reasons. Anyone, especially the children in the family of a suided should get counseling to bring their awareness to the fact that a certain boundary between the unthinkable/undoable has been breached. Consciously rebuilding that barrier may help people get through the temporary hard times without resorting to that permanent solution.

I think most families have some tragic events although those you mentioned were closely knit. The strangest brought to mind was when a woman said to me 'I must just finish my project. I shall have to go up to the phone box My Son, (she said his name) has overdosed he will have to go to the hospital. He has done it before. I said 'Well you should go straight away.(This was before, phone mania.) 'Yes.' she said . Have you got two shillings for the phone box..)

TAPS
My aunt tried it. It led to an all night hospital vigil. She made it, her and her husband moved, and enjoyed life in Southern New Jersey love.

My heart goes out to your family during what is an extremely tough anniversary. I have heard about suicide running in families.

I'm so sorry. I know you'd like to find just the right words to comfort
your son, to help keep him from worrying. We feel so helpless and guilty when this happens, even though there may not be anything anyone else could have done. Somehow a suicide hits harder. I believe you're right - this does seem to run in families.
